BOAT TO COLOMBIA - Gitano Del Mar Catamaran

The Gitano del Mar has become famous for its Party trips for Backpackers in San Blas. The crew is fun, experienced and helpful and will make sure you have the experience of your life. ABOUT THE BOAT Gitano del Mar is a 52 foot catamaran built in 1998 that can fit up to 18 passengers. When full though it can be a bit crowded onboard. It has 2 private double cabins, two private triples, and 2 singles and a triple and a double in the salon, 3 bathrooms, a big kitchen with fridge and freezer, generator, sound system and DVD player, two and a freezer, snorkel gear, and fishing gear, kayak and dinghy. The hangout area is big, especially outside there is a lot of space to relax and enjoy the sun. Fresh water shower outside There is no air-con but in case you feel too hot in your cabin we have some mattresses, pillows and sleeping bags for the ones who prefers to sleep outside under the beautiful stars.The boat is equipped with kayak, paddle board, snorkeling gear, fishing equipment, dice, cards and other games. CAPTAIN & CREW The crew always consists of Captain, first mate and cook. Languages spoken are English, Spanish, French and German. ABOUT THE TRIP 5 days  /  4 nights. Minimum 2.5 days in San Blas , 2 days for the crossing to/from Cartagena. Visiting different islands daily for nice beaches and snorkeling. 3 daily delicious meals made of fresh ingredients, Salads and Fruits. Drinking water, coffee, tea. Snorkel equipment for all guests. ABOUT THE FOOD We offer 3 meals a day, Coffee, tea, water and some ice tea are also available free of charge. Our food is all prepared using fresh ingredients and there is always plenty of it. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served each day. When available we buy fresh fish, lobster and octopus from the local Guna fisherman. Breakfast is a variety of pancakes, scrambled eggs, granola, toast, coffee, tea and fresh fruits. Lunches can be anything from chicken curry with jasmine rice, beef tacos, spaghetti bolognese or ham and cheese toasties. In general we use a lot fruits and vegetables for all the meals and serve meat minimum once a day. For dinner in San Blas we prepare bbq lobster on the beach with potatoes and salad, or on the boat enjoy tuna and tomato pasta, pizza or fresh fish with couscous. It depends on the weather but we try to cook a bbq two nights on the beach (it's not so easy to make a good fire with only coconuts ;-)) Our goal is to eat a variety of good a healthy meals.   COST & PAYMENT BREAKDOWN Total Cost = $550, plus $20 Guna territory entrance fee. $50 deposit payment made to Cacique Cruiser to reserve your spot. $500 per guest for the boat trip paid to the captain. Cost does not include transport to the trips starting location.  Canadian passport holders are charged an additional visa fee by Colombia of 190,000 Colombian pesos. To get there guests must pay for ground transportation.  The least expensive is the public bus from Albrook Bus Terminal in Panama City. Or the boat usually offers a shuttle for $25 per guest. The boat arrives at Club Nautica marina in Cartagena.  From there guests can easily take a taxi to main areas. About The Boat This 44' monohull was originallly a racing boat. It was refurbished a couple of years ago for this trip. It has an open galley, 1 shared guest bathroom, and a large cockpit comon area.  The boat has a capacity for a total of 10 guests.  The boat doesn’t have any private cabins. The only road to Portobelo had been blocked several times due to landslides or strikes. BOAT TO COLOMBIA - Sophia Sailboat

ABOUT THE BOAT Sophia VI is a Vagabund 51 Ketch sailing boat, and is equipped with a 120 HP turbo diesel engine. The boat was built in 1985, refitted in 2014 with new rigging and got a new  engine in 2017. It has GPS,life rafts and life jackets. There are 2 guest cabins plus bunks in the main area. There is one four person cabin with double bed and two single bunks. A two person cabin with a large bed.  In the main cabin there are 3 single bunks and one double bed. The boat have 2 toilets and a large outside  living area. There is also a kayak, snorkel gear and  fishing supplies on board. ABOUT THE CAPTAIN Andre is a graduate of the Colombian naval cadet academy in Cartagena de Indias and he holds a professional captains license. He speaks fluent English and Spanish, and is an outgoing and laid back character. In 2009 he spent time sailing in the Pacific ocean before returning to the Caribbean. He was employed for several years as a professional  captain on various sailboats and catamarans, making over 100 crossing during that time sailing between Panama to Cartagena. In 2017 Andre purchased Sophia VI. When enough guests are interested the boat   from Panama Cican arrange a shuttle from Panama City to Puerto Lindo for $25 that would  pick you up at your hostel or point of reference at around 1pm and take you directly to the boat. The most common thing to do is take a taxi to the Albrook bus terminal and a bus from there. The boat arrives in Sapzurro, Colombia.  There are no roads into this area.  See below for onward travel to Cartagena instructions and costs.   ONWARD TRAVEL TO CARTAGENA All times and prices are approximate. All amounts may change due to providers’ policy and money exchange rates. To get to Cartagena it takes one day, leaving in the morning and arriving in the evening. The journey consists of one boat ride and two bus/van rides. After the trip ends in Sapzurro, you will need to take a local motor boat to Capurgana and spend at least one night in Capurgana in order to catch the morning boat to Necocli. Sapzurro to Capurganá - local motor boat (12.000 COP per person). In Capurgana you need to stamp into Colombia at the immigration office. This is free and easy, no need for onward ticket. You will only need 1 copy of your passport and your yellow fever card. We recommend getting the yellow fever vaccine before getting to Panama Republic. Canadian nationals need to pay a 160.000 pesos entrance fee to Colombia.   Capurgana to Necocli - Around 1.5 hours. Leaves once a day at 11:00 a.m. Cost is 70,000 COP. You must book your ticket for the boat to Necocli and have your Colombia immigration stamp the day before you leave. In preparation for Necocli ferry make sure all your bags are protected by bin liners (plastic bags). These can be bought at the shop by the dock. Have sun block ready. Hint, the most comfortable place to sit is at the back of the boat.
