BOAT TO COLOMBIA - Gitano Del Mar Catamaran

The Gitano del Mar has become famous for its Party trips for Backpackers in San Blas. The crew is fun, experienced and helpful and will make sure you have the experience of your life. ABOUT THE BOAT Gitano del Mar is a 52 foot catamaran built in 1998 that can fit up to 18 passengers. When full though it can be a bit crowded onboard. It has 2 private double cabins, two private triples, and 2 singles and a triple and a double in the salon, 3 bathrooms, a big kitchen with fridge and freezer, generator, sound system and DVD player, two and a freezer, snorkel gear, and fishing gear, kayak and dinghy. The hangout area is big, especially outside there is a lot of space to relax and enjoy the sun. Fresh water shower outside There is no air-con but in case you feel too hot in your cabin we have some mattresses, pillows and sleeping bags for the ones who prefers to sleep outside under the beautiful stars.The boat is equipped with kayak, paddle board, snorkeling gear, fishing equipment, dice, cards and other games. CAPTAIN & CREW The crew always consists of Captain, first mate and cook. Languages spoken are English, Spanish, French and German. ABOUT THE TRIP 5 days  /  4 nights. ABOUT THE FOOD We offer 3 meals a day, Coffee, tea, water and some ice tea are also available free of charge. Our food is all prepared using fresh ingredients and there is always plenty of it. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is served each day. When available we buy fresh fish, lobster and octopus from the local Guna fisherman. Breakfast is a variety of pancakes, scrambled eggs, granola, toast, coffee, tea and fresh fruits. Lunches can be anything from chicken curry with jasmine rice, beef tacos, spaghetti bolognese or ham and cheese toasties. In general we use a lot fruits and vegetables for all the meals and serve meat minimum once a day. For dinner in San Blas we prepare bbq lobster on the beach with potatoes and salad, or on the boat enjoy tuna and tomato pasta, pizza or fresh fish with couscous. About The Boat This 44' monohull was originallly a racing boat. It was refurbished a couple of years ago for this trip. It has an open galley, 1 shared guest bathroom, and a large cockpit comon area.  The boat has a capacity for a total of 10 guests.  The boat doesn’t have any private cabins. ABOUT THE BOAT 40 ton steel comfortable ocean going motor sailer specifically designed for charter/ backpacking operations. Completed and launched 2003. 10mm plate glass windows and all the required safety equipment for this voyage. ( As specified by both the Colombian and Panamanian Govts) 20 Passenger berths: Five double beds (2 in private cabins, one with curtain screen and two open in the saloon), 10 single berths. Seven yrs working this route Cook: Natalie ABOUT THE TRIP Day 1 – A member of crew will meet you in Puerto Lindo on the morning of departure. Most people arrive by specially arranged group transport (25USD per person) which will take you directly to the meeting point. Passengers arriving independently will be given instructions where and when to meet. After a trip briefing the captain will collect passports. Everyone will board the boat early afternoon before setting off at around 2pm. The boat should arrive in San Blas during the evening and anchor overnight. Day 2 – This will be the first full day in San Blas. Remember, because you departed from Puerto Lindo the day before you will already be in the islands when you wake. Many other trips start their first day in the islands which means passengers don't get on board until around 10am after arriving from Panama City. Day 3 – Another full day in San Blas. This time you will head further east towards the outer more secluded islands. Day 4 – The final day in San Blas before heading towards Cartagena. Coco Bandero is a favourite place to stop on this final day to relax before setting off in the afternoon, beyond the islands. Day 5 – All day and night at sea. Day 6 – You should arrive to Cartagena in the morning or early afternoon. After the immigration formalities have been completed by the captain’s agent you will be taken ashore near Club Natico Marina, a short taxi to the main hostel area. Your captain will call our maritime agent on arrival in Cartagena. He deals with all boat arrival paperwork and immigration. You will likely stay on the boat after arrival whilst the captain meets the agent, who will return later with passports stamped. Onward travel tickets will not be required. ABOUT THE FOOD Breakfast is around 7:30 am and includes coffee/tea, fruit, cereal and bread. At around 10 or 11 am a second cooked breakfast is served. Examples are Chorizo, omelettes, pancakes etc. Lunch is between 1 and 2 pm. Dinner is around 7pm. All meals are substantial with fresh vegetables.  Seafood is regularly caught and purchased from the locals. Lobster will be served if in season. The boat has ample refrigeration for drink storage. ABOUT THE BOAT Sophia VI is a Vagabund 51 Ketch sailing boat, and is equipped with a 120 HP turbo diesel engine. The boat was built in 1985, refitted in 2014 with new rigging and got a new  engine in 2017. It has GPS,life rafts and life jackets. There are 2 guest cabins plus bunks in the main area. There is one four person cabin with double bed and two single bunks. A two person cabin with a large bed.  In the main cabin there are 3 single bunks and one double bed. ABOUT THE BOAT Sovereign Grace is the second boat in the fleet. She is even bigger at 74ft and 60 tonnes. She joined Wild Card in 2014 due to huge demand for another quality trip, and has been a great success. Everyone will board the boat early afternoon before setting off at around 2pm. The boat should arrive in San Blas during the evening and anchor overnight. Day 2 – This will be the first full day in San Blas. Remember, because you departed from Puerto Lindo the day before you will already be in the islands when you wake. Many other trips start their first day in the islands which means passengers don't get on board until around 10am after arriving from Panama City. Day 3 – Another full day in San Blas. This time you will head further east towards the outer more secluded islands. Day 4 – The final day in San Blas before heading towards Cartagena. Coco Bandero is a favourite place to stop on this final day to relax before setting off in the afternoon, beyond the islands. Day 5 – All day and night at sea. Day 6 – You should arrive to Cartagena in the morning or early afternoon. After the immigration formalities have been completed by the captain’s agent you will be taken ashore near Club Natico Marina, a short taxi to the main hostel area. Your captain will call our maritime agent on arrival in Cartagena. He deals with all boat arrival paperwork and immigration. You will likely stay on the boat after arrival whilst the captain meets the agent, who will return later with passports stamped. Onward travel tickets will not be required. ABOUT THE FOOD Breakfast is around 7:30 am and includes coffee/tea, fruit, cereal and bread. At around 10 or 11 am a second cooked breakfast is served. Examples are Chorizo, omelettes, pancakes etc. Lunch is between 1 and 2 pm. Dinner is around 7pm. All meals are substantial with fresh vegetables.  Seafood is regularly caught and purchased from the locals. Lobster will be served if in season. The boat has ample refrigeration for drink storage. The boat arrives in Puerto Lindo Panama . From there guests can get to Panama City by public bus for about $10 or $25  for a shuttle organized by the boat.     ABOUT THE BOAT A Vigabund 51 ft Ketch sailing boat, and is equipped with a 120 HP turbo diesel engine. The boat was built in 1985 and refitted in 2014 with new rigging and had a new  engine in 2017. Up to 11 guests sleep on the boat and it also has a large outdoor living area. There is a 4 person cabin in front with a double bed and two single bunks. In the main cabin there are 3 single bunks and one double bed.  In the aft cabin there is one large king size double bed. BOAT TO PANAMA -Sovereign Grace Sailboat

ABOUT THE BOAT Sovereign Grace is the second boat in the fleet. She is even bigger at 74ft and 60 tonnes. She joined Wild Card in 2014 due to huge demand for another quality trip, and has been a great success. The forward deck area is huge, allowing everyone to relax while at anchor or when sailing. 21 berths are available in shared cabins, private twins/doubles and the saloon area Three toilets with electric flush toilets. Below deck dry stowage for all baggage. 8 person dinghy for transportation to shore. Shore activities include bbq , volleyball and snorkeling. Pirate costumes available. CAPTAIN Sovereign Grace’s captain is James (Chappy). He is another popular skipper with plenty of experience in San Blas and elsewhere. James is originally from California, boating his whole life on sail and motor yachts. Five years ago James said goodbye to the corporate life and set sail from his home in Boston to the San Blas islands, where he has been running charter boats and exploring the islands ever since.The boat always has plenty of crew on board to look after guests and keep a smooth running operation. (Occasionally other experienced contracted captains are used when James is on vacations) ABOUT THE TRIP Pre  Departure Meeting  -  This will take place at Hostel Mamallena (Media Luna, Getsemani) at 7pm the night before departure. Please make sure you attend this meeting as final details regarding the departure time and meeting place will be given as well as full details regarding current immigration procedure. Day 1 – You will normally leave Cartagena in the late afternoon/early evening. The exact time will be confirmed by the captain the day before at the meeting. The boat will be anchored in the bay near ‘Club Nautico Marina’ in Mange. Around 5 – 7 minutes by taxi from Getsemani, the main hotel and guest house area. The Carulla Supermarket  is nearby to give everyone a final opportunity to buy last minute supplies. After boarding the boat dinner will be served and you will start the trip towards San Blas After a trip briefing the captain will collect passports. Everyone will board the boat early afternoon before setting off at around 2pm. The boat should arrive in San Blas during the evening and anchor overnight. Day 2 – You will awake at sea and spend the whole day negativing westwards. Depending on currents you might arrive to San Blas late this evening, anchoring overnight in a remote area. Day 3 – This will be the first full day in San Blas. Most likely in one of the more tranquil anchorages in the outer section of the islands. Day 4 – Another full day in San Blas. This time you will head further west to anchor at another popular location Day 5 – The final day in San Blas before heading towards Puerto Lindo. You will visit one or two different locations before setting off towards the coast in the late afternoon or early evening. Day 6 – You should arrive to Puerto Lindo early in the morning and will be free to leave the boat after breakfast. ABOUT THE FOOD Breakfast is around 7:30 am and includes coffee/tea, fruit, cereal and bread. At around 10 or 11 am a second cooked breakfast is served. Examples are Chorizo, omelettes, pancakes etc. Lunch is between 1 and 2 pm. Dinner is around 7pm. All meals are substantial with fresh vegetables.  Seafood is regularly caught and purchased from the locals. Lobster will be served if in season. The boat has ample refrigeration for drink storage. Ice is provided for the coolers on deck for guest use. Neither boat provides alcohol , mixers or snacks such as chips. Alcohol can be purchased in the islands but it is generally the norm to purchase everything prior to the trip. Fruit is also served in the afternoon.
